FES Sport is an approach that allows many spinal cord injured persons to exercise and
actually do so using their paralysed muscles.

Research has proven there are many health benefits for this. Now we want to take a step toward removing remaining barriers, whether real or imaginary, that prevent more individuals from getting regular exercise right now.

Combining FES with a motorised indoor or outdoor cycle (FES Cycling) or a rowing machine (FES Rowing) has been proven to
open up new possibilities to grasp better health, develop fitness and find athletic challenge.

The technology is improving, people are adopting it, but there is much still to do.
Much more can be done.

This Event Aims to showcase work so far nd help accelerate the movement of this esearch into practice - ultimately benefiting
the health and quality of life of thousands of eople with a Spinal Cord Injury around the world.

FES Sport - A new sport and health frontier

A meeting to be held in Glasgow June 19th & 20th 2009.
Advances in Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) are now allowing spinal cord injured individuals to routinely exercise using their own muscles, when previously their injury would have served as a permanent barrier to this.  The technology is improving but there is much still to do.

Combining FES with a motorised indoor or outdoor cycle (FES Cycling) or a rowing machine (FES Rowing) has been proven to open up new possibilities for spinal cord injured persons to grasp better health, develop fitness and find athletic challenge.  Much more can follow and maybe you can help.
